Easter Reflections

“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you will return.”
Why mark the start of the Easter season—a time of celebration and triumph—with such a somber memento mori? Because there is no resurrection that is not preceded by death.
“Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God i love.”
The posture of repentance begun on Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, forty days of preparation for Easter or Resurrection Sunday. …Lent is a season of reflection, repentance, and renewal for all who are in Christ.
“…HAVING LOVED HIS OWN WHO WERE IN THE WORLD, [JESUS] LOVED THEM TO THE END” (JOHN 13:1).
Palm Sunday (celebrated April 13, 2025) marks the beginning of the end of Jesus’ life on earth. Having loved His disciples throughout His ministry, Jesus continued toward Jerusalem and the cross that awaited.
“I GIVE YOU A NEW COMMAND: LOVE ONE ANOTHER…”
From this new command, mandatum novum in Latin, we received the name Maundy Thursday (celebrated April 17, 2025), a Passover celebrated like none other.
…AND THE LORD HAS LAID ON HIM THE INIQUITY OF US ALL.
Good Friday. The irony of the name has proven hard to reconcile for many. “Good Friday is filled to the brim with blood, injustice, and death.”
